Healing Verses in The Quran
In the vast tapestry of human experience, healing—both physical and spiritual—stands out as a universal desire. The Quran, Islam's timeless scripture, is not just a theological guide, but a holistic manual addressing the deepest concerns of the human heart, body, and soul. Nestled within its verses, are profound messages of healing that offer solace to the wounded, hope to the distressed, and guidance to the seekers.
While the whole Quran is indeed a remedy for the heart, there are 6 verses, in particular, that address the topic of healing and are recognized as Ayat Ash-Shifa - or Quranic Verses of Healing. Let's learn what they are!
وَيَشْفِ صُدُورَ قَوْمٍۢ مُّؤْمِنِينَ
... and soothe the hearts of the believers— (Surat At-Tawbah, 14)
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ قَدْ جَآءَتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَآءٌۭ لِّمَا فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ وَهُدًۭى وَرَحْمَةٌۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
O humanity! Indeed, there has come to you a warning from your Lord, a cure
for what is in the hearts, a guide, and a mercy for the believers. (Surah Yunus, 57)
يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بُطُونِهَا شَرَابٌۭ مُّخْتَلِفٌ أَلْوَٰنُهُۥ فِيهِ شِفَآءٌۭ لِّلنَّاسِ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةًۭ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
From their bellies comes forth liquid of varying colours, in which there is healing for people. Surely in this is a sign for those who reflect. (Surat An-Nahl, 69)
وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌۭ وَرَحْمَةٌۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۙ وَلَا يَزِيدُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا خَسَارًۭا
We send down the Quran as a healing and mercy for the believers, but it only increases the wrongdoers in loss. (Surat Al-Isra, 82)
وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ
And He ˹alone˺ heals me when I am sick. (Surah Ash-Shu'ara, 80)
قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ هُدًۭى وَشِفَآءٌۭ
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “It is a guide and a healing to the believers. (Surat Al-Fussilat, 44)
