Still Reciting The Same Surahs? Let’s Change That!
Level up your prayer with Juz Amma!📈
It’s really easy to fall into the cycle of reciting the same surahs for every prayer - convenience, right? Although every surah has its merit and engaging with a single letter reaps abundant rewards, we shouldn’t get complacent in the approach we take to memorizing new surahs AND putting them into practice. Our prayers form the building blocks of our faith and it’s our duty to perform them to the best of our ability.
We’ll admit, memorization isn’t always easy, especially when juggling life’s many responsibilities, but we need to collectively commit to doing better when it comes to learning new surahs, and we’ve got just the thing to help you do it.
Start small🌱
With any task in life, more often than not it’s better to start small and work your way up. Going big from the outset can bring a little overwhelm and burnout with it, and sometimes it leads to doing nothing at all. So we’re not asking you to dive head-first into memorizing a surah as hefty as Al-Baqarah - although you’re welcome to try if you’d like to - but we do need to start somewhere.
Juz Amma✨
The final juz of the Quran, and a wonderful collection of shorter, more digestible surahs for those of us who want to memorize more but need to ease ourselves into it. Juz Amma (or Juz 30) is home to 37 surahs, starting with Surah Al-Nabaa and ending with Surah An-Naas, and is a brilliant starting point for anyone who wants to start with shorter surahs (some of them are only half a page or less!). Let’s do it together! Start memorizing Juz Amma now or make it a post-Ramadan goal as you work to continue building your relationship with the Quran overall.
Allah SWT says of the Quran:
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember. So is there anyone who will be mindful? (Surah Al-Qamar, 17)
How?
There are many tips from Huffadh and Quran teachers out there regarding memorization, but the best would be:
- Set a target🎯
- Revise daily🗓️
- Learn the meaning of what you’re memorizing📖
- Minimize distractions - stop scrolling through social media!📵
- Recite what you’re memorizing out loud🗣️
- Put what you’ve memorized to use🔧
